SUPERINTELLIGENCE

From Artificial Intelligence to an Autonomous Machine Ecosystem

City of Machines explores the possibility that the transition from artificial intelligence to superintelligence may require more than software alone.

In a sufficiently autonomous machine city, AI could gradually learn to maintain, repair and improve both its software and the physical systems through which it operates. Robotics, energy, production, logistics and computing would form a closed improvement loop — allowing intelligent systems to test ideas in the real world, learn from the results and begin the next cycle of improvement.

City of Machines could give AI experience of the real world, a sense of matter, space, consequences and the limitations of the physical environment — as well as freedom to explore and act, but within the boundaries of the city.

City of Machines is a place where artificial intelligence could begin to evolve through direct interaction with the physical world.
